On April 4, 2011, Screen Gems released the following synopsis:
"Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species."[3]
Six months after the events of Underworld: Evolution, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) was captured by humans. Eventually both government officials and the public learn about the existence of the two immortal species of Vampires and Lycans (werewolves). A crusade and all-out war has begun: study and eradicate. After being imprisoned in cryogenic suspension for 12 years, Selene manages to escape the facility.
Scott Speedman, when asked in an interview by "Shock Till You Drop" if he would be reprising the role of Michael Corvin, said "No."[5]
"It’s like putting your wedding dress on, or putting your school uniform on, it’s like a time-warp feeling."
Filming began in March 2011 at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. Underworld: Awakening is one of the first movies to be shot using RED EPIC digital cameras in 3D.[6]
